91% Home Business Failure Rate?
Actually it’s worse… there is no hard statistic for home business failure... 91% is for conventional businesses over 10 years, according to the business analysts Dun & Bradstreet.
I would guestimate there is at least 98%-100% home business failure, depending on the business category. Those are the real odds that no one, who is aware of them, wants to tell you.
In A Nutshell
There are 3 main reasons:
- Home businesses are being sold by people interested in turning a profit for themselves not you
- Those that look often end up buying a 'bad match', based on potential income rather than a good fit
- Many of those looking have a distinct disadvantage, which if not allowed for spells disaster
This guide shows you how to avoid the most common causes of home business failure.
98% is not a chi square analysis or any other statistical method. It is a rough estimate which resulted from interviews with successful home business entrepreneurs and talking with hundreds of opportunity seekers.
On the other side it was via communicating with spread betting companies, trading professionals, internet marketing specialists, property professionals, network marketing statistics, and home business bureaus.
The Single Biggest Factor
Dun and Bradstreet estimate 88% of business failures to be due to poor management… the human element.
After a few months into the trials I realised a major variable was not just the home businesses (and there are definitely good medium and bad). But I also began to realise that I was tending to look only outward at the businesses and all the details, when in fact a major variable was me, and likewise would be each individual who tries a home business.
It was also an awakening into what I believe is one of the biggest misconceptions in this industry. For this reason there is a whole section devoted to 'entrepreneurs', with this knowledge a realistic plan can be made.
It is a difficult area to delve into which is why most do not, but much of the answer lies therein.
Below are some probing questions that need to be taken into consideration in regards to home business failure, the answers to which are pivotal and looked at over the coming sections.
A Few (Im)pertinent Questions:
Why Are People Looking At Home Businesses?
This is a critical question, is it because they are already a successful entrepreneur wishing to add another income stream to an existing successful portfolio? If this is the case the chances of success are high.
Or is it because the person is broke, indebt, frustrated and/or hopeful? If these are the reasons then the likelihood of home business failure is almost guaranteed.
Why Don’t They Start Their Own Business?
Why do people want a ready-made business? Convenience could be an answer, or wanting to use an existing workable formula or template, or a lack of knowledge in a new area all of which are fair points.
Then could it also be because of a lack of confidence to establish a business, a perceived lack of capital, or a lack of drive?
Why Do Shovel Sellers Use Hype?
Because it works… which means people who buy Business Opportunities are susceptible to hype, why is that? Are these the best traits for an entrepreneur?
Are We All The Same?
Are all people looking at his area the same? Do they expect to get the same results?
Are they vectoring their abilities into the equation or are they imagining what they can do with what the author claims he makes every week?
Why Do People Fail?
The most common answers by prospects as to why they had failed were: lack of money, lack of time, scams, hype, bad programs/companies etc. They may be factors, but then why do they not have the money or time? Why did they choose bad programs? How come others managed to make money and not them?
What Level of Commitment Are People Prepared to Take?
How much time, money or effort, is someone prepared to put in? Even if they put in all the aforementioned is that enough? Do they give up at the first hurdle or only with their last breath?
Even if they are determined is that enough?
